How to Start Your Spiritual Journey? (Without Feeling Overwhelmed)

Spiritual Journey, Spirituality

In my last blog here 👉 “Spiritual Awakening for Beginners (2026): A Complete Guide to Inner Growth & Purpose”, we discussed what spiritual awakening is and how it feels.

If you haven’t read this blog, I highly recommend reading it first before this one, since I shared a new perspective.

If you have already read, then let’s discuss how to start this spiritual journey in a few simple steps. Also, let me clarify at the outset that it is not an overnight journey.

Some people who are not chosen for this journey spend their entire life trying to understand themselves, figure out what they really want to do with their life, and die with experiences they had in this lifetime.

It’s the difference between letting life shape you… and consciously awakening to shape your life with intention and purpose.”

We are all fortunate here, who have been chosen for this journey to know thyself, to live our lives consciously with purpose, intentional actions, and full of understanding.

Haha! 🙃 I know what you’re thinking now! Don’t worry! It won’t take your entire life to find your true self, since you’ve been chosen for this journey, and reading MKYLB blogs can help you along the way.

I am sure that if you follow our guidance properly, you will enjoy this journey and find your true self and purpose.

Before we proceed, let me first mention that MKYLB is not responsible for any actions or interpretations by viewers or their known ones. MKYLB is here only to share its learnings and perspectives.

🌿 What Does It Mean to Start a Spiritual Journey?

Mind and Soul Interaction, Spiritual Journey

Let’s talk about a real-life example, suppose you have 2 friends: one is your close friend because you both understand each other very well, while the other is your casual friend, where you don’t really understand each other much but still get along for one reason or another.

Now imagine: In the above example, you are your mind/intellect, and your casual friend is your soul, where both get along with each other for some reason, but don’t really understand each other right now.

Whereas when your mind/intellect gets a nudge of Spiritual Awakening, as we read in my previous 👉 blog, your soul wants to be your mind’s close friend now.

As mentioned in the above example, where your mind/intellect and your soul, both just don’t get along, but really understand each other.

Every soul is the purest form of the divine, so to understand your soul, your mind/intellect needs to achieve that purest form of your soul, correct?

For your soul to tell you who you are, what your life purpose is, and to prepare you to fulfill that purpose, your mind needs to rise from your current, non-purest level to the highest level, where you can not only talk to your soul but also understand your true self.

Some call this a transformation to become your Higher Self as well.

Every human’s body is made up of 5 elements – Earth, Water, Air, Space, and Fire. Due to their imbalance effects on our body and mind, our behavior changes.

From birth, the effects of these 5 elements lead us to carry both good and bad behavioral traits.

6 Mind Enemies, Shadripus

With this, there are 6 mind enemies that every human has – in Hinduism, we call them ‘Shadripu’.

These are 👇

Kama (काम): Lust or desire
Krodha (क्रोध): Anger or Hatred
Lobha (लोभ): Greed or covetousness
Moha (मोह): Delusion, Attachment, or Infatuation
Mada (मद): Pride, Ego, or Arrogance
Matsarya (मात्सर्य): Jealousy or envy

Note that these are mind enemies, and the soul is not affected by this.

Because of these enemies, for your mind to reach the soul’s understanding level, we need to transform our mind into a new, higher version that can easily fight and win over these enemies.

Please pay attention here, I didn’t say defeat them completely.

Yes, if you take celibacy, become a saint, and practice spirituality continuously exactly as Lord Buddha did, then you can win them over completely.

However, when you are called for spiritual awakening, it doesn’t mean you become a saint and leave everything. I won’t even suggest that! Not everyone is made for this path.

In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna explains this very clearly. He says this path is not for those who want to run from their current responsibilities or problems; it is, in fact, for those who want to meet their true self and true purpose, even if problems and responsibilities come their way!

So, tell me, can a normal human like us, living their busy day-to-day life with responsibilities and problems, and involved in this illusory nature of reality (called माया in Hinduism), still walk this journey and come to know their true self and true purpose?

The answer is Yes! We can! At first, it feels like How can we become so pure?

It’s impossible! I even thought this way initially and tried to run away from it. But the more you run away, the more you get pushed towards this, either by the universe or by your own soul.

You must have heard many different sources talking about ‘Chosen Ones’. If you have not, you can watch the meaning of this here 👉, ‘Chosen Ones Definition.’

This transformation of your mind/intellect into your higher self is also called inner growth, inner engineering, self-awareness, etc., by many people nowadays.

At the end, it all means the same to raise your mind/intellect level to your soul’s highest, purest level to know your true self and live a purposeful and peaceful life.

Let me tell you, this process takes time because you must consistently work on yourself. Just like your studies, this is definitely fun, painful, but worth it, and the most fulfilling journey.

🧭 Step-by-Step Guide to Start Your Spiritual Journey

Let’s only follow the 3 initial steps in this blog. Eventually, we will learn more steps in my upcoming blogs.

Step 1: Acceptance

You must have heard that acceptance is the key to happiness, but here, acceptance is the first step towards your inner peace.

Let’s accept that you need to be honest with yourself and accept whatever you are feeling right now is normal.

Don’t be judgmental about yourself. You don’t need to be hard on yourself. Everyone lives their life as per what they face and believe, and so you are.

There is nothing to be ashamed of or feel bad about, even for failures in your life.

Step 2: Confession

I’m sure you will not hear or read about this step anywhere else other than our MKYLB website right now. In the first step, you accepted your feelings, but now, you need to confess them to yourself/God.

If you are a believer, then sit in front of God and make sure no one else listens to you and confess all your feelings to God. But if you are not a believer, then stand in front of the mirror and confess all your feelings to yourself.

Since I am a believer, I know how it feels when you treat God as your close friend/sibling and share whatever you feel like. Now, why are we doing this? because once you take everything out, you start feeling light.

As if you are telling everything, being completely transparent in front of God or yourself, who is completely trustworthy, & this frees you up from all that you have been piling up over so many years, months, or days.

Tip here for all: “Don’t just have conversations in your head—open your mouth and actually share them with God/Yourself.”

Step 3: Self-Awareness

After you spoke up about everything you were feeling and let it out in step 2, I’m sure you’re feeling much lighter than before.

Now, immediately after you finish all your confessions in step 2, start analyzing yourself; look at your every action and thought as if a third person is watching you closely.

Note down your observations if you want. I will tell you what you have to do with these observations in my next steps in the next blog here 👉”Step-by-Step Guide to start your Spiritual Journey.”
